Estate regeneration cash approved

Run-down flats on a West Yorkshire estate are to be bulldozed and replaced with new homes after a £4m government grant for the scheme was approved.Kirklees Council said 155 flats on the Fieldhead estate in Birstall, near Dewsbury, would be replaced with 140 "modern family homes". New communal open spaces, play areas and shops will also be created. Developer Keepmoat will employ local people during the construction process, the council said.
