Bradford City manager Stuart McCall is delighted that Matt Clarke has penned a new one-year deal with the club.

The 27-year-old Bantams defender, who moved to Valley Parade from Darlington almost two years ago, has agreed an appearance-based deal because of his recent injury problems.

McCall told the Telegraph & Argus: "He understands that it has to be incentive-based because of the amount of games he's played.

"It was a one-off offer, take it or leave it, and I'm pleased with Clarkey's attitude because he's taken quite a large drop in his wage.

"He's a naturally fit lad but needs to look after himself and he wasn't always doing things professionally earlier in the season.

"But to be fair to the lad, he's knuckled down, come in on his days off on occasions and done a lot better. He knows there are things he can do to help himself and he's focused."
