Bradford City have appointed Stuart McCall as their new manager to end a three-month pursuit of their former player.
McCall left his job as assistant-manager at Sheffield United earlier in the week after being overlooked in the race to replace former boss Neil Warnock in the Bramall Lane hot-seat.
The Bantams had made their interest known in their former midfielder after deciding to part company with previous manager Colin Todd back in February.
Bradford chairman Julian Rhodes appointed David Wetherall on a part-time basis, but the veteran defender couldn't prevent the club bring relegated from League One following a dismal end to the season.
McCall spent two spells as a player at Valley Parade and was part of the Bantams side that won promotion to the Premiership in the late 1990s.
Meanwhile, Wetherall has been told he will not be a part of McCall's new backroom staff.
"People might think I'm putting on a brave face but honestly I've got no issues with that," he told the Telegrapg & Argus.
"I will go back exactly to how it was before, although hopefully I will get involved with taking the reserves at some point, but I won't have an official coaching title and that's fine by me.
"I'm totally relaxed about it and this means I can go back to playing, which I'm very happy to do."
