Calvin Zola scored twice to put Crewe in control early on before Michael Boulding pulled one back for the Bantams. Steven Schumacher then restored Alex's two-goal advantage and although James Hanson set up a grandstand finish the visitors held on. McCall said: "They've got forward players that will cause teams problems and we just had to defend a little bit better than we did on certain occasions. "We got a goal at a great time just before half-time and we felt if we came out and put pressure on them we could get the victory. "But I'm really pleased with the determination after we went 3-1 down. I definitely believe we should have got something out of the game and a lot of the play pleased me. I'm disappointed to lose the game, but not in the way we played."
