The former City player, who was McCall's assistant, was in charge for Saturday's draw with Grimsby at Valley Parade and is among a host of candidates being interviewed for a caretaker manager role by City's joint-chairmen Julian Rhodes and Mark Lawn.

The duo are set to make a permanent appointment in the summer and Jacobs told BBC Radio Leeds: "I love the club and I'm sure and confident I could help the club move forward.

"I think we can progress that club and that's my thinking about the decision to go for the interview."

"I thought long and hard about whether to apply for the interview. It's your future so you have to think about it long and hard."
