Brandon handed Bantams lifeline

City's player budget has been slashed by 50% this summer and the club were hoping their high-earners would move on, but two of them, Graeme Lee and Paul McLaren, have left and McCall has had a rethink over Brandon, who was barely involved last season due to an ankle injury. McCall told the club's official website: "At that stage, we needed to off-load at least two of the big earners and we've done that. "We don't really need to off-load Chris and I've had a good chat with him. His attitude and application has been spot on from day one. "He just needs to continue playing and training as well as he is doing. I think Chris is desperate to put behind him a year of frustration caused by those injuries. He wants to have a good season here and I'm positive he can do that with us." Brandon joined his hometown club from Huddersfield in the summer of 2008, but has made only seven first-team appearances.
