Greg Leigh strike sets Bradford on the way to FA Cup success

Greg Leigh set last season's FA Cup giant killers Bradford on the road to the second round of this season's competition as they claimed a 2-0 win against National League Aldershot.

The former Manchester City youngster scored a superb individual goal, taking a pass from Billy Knott before cutting in from the left and skilfully chipping the ball over the head of experienced former Portsmouth goalkeeper Phil Smith to give the Bantams the lead in the 58th minute.

Tony McMahon then made sure of Bradford's place in the second round with a 76th-minute penalty after substitute Luke James had been tripped in the box by Omar Beckles.

Bradford, who beat Chelsea and Sunderland to reach last season's quarter-finals, had goalkeeper Ben Williams to thank for three fine saves that prevented the lively visitors from taking a first-half lead, keeping out goal-bound efforts from Richard Brodie, Sam Hatton and Jim Stevenson.

The home side's best first-half effort was a shot from Mark Marshall, which Smith tipped on to the post.
