Red cards mar stalemate

Bradford debutant Kyle Bennett and Preston's Neil Kilkenny were both sent off after a first-half altercation in a goalless draw at Valley Parade.

The result extended Bradford's of home matches without a win to nine and they have not won on home soil since the end of September.

The dismissals came after 25 minutes when winger Bennett, on loan from Doncaster, and Kilkenny were sent off after clashing on the halfway line.

Kilkenny reacted to a foul by Bennett, one of two debutants in the home side. Bennett retaliated and both players were shown the red card by referee Stuart Attwell.

Preston missed a great chance two minutes later when Joe Garner just missed connecting with Scott Laird's left-wing cross and Paul Gallagher chested the ball against the post.

Bradford's best effort of the first half came in the 45th minute when home debutant Aaron McLean saw his goalbound shot punched away by Preston goalkeeper Declan Rudd after the visitors' defence had failed to deal with a cross from winger Adam Reach, who also made his first appearance for the home side.

Both sides went close to scoring in an action-packed second half. Rudd did well to block a shot from McLean, while Josh Brownhill hit the post for Preston, who had the ball in the net in the 83rd minute only for Garner to be ruled offside.
