Boertien earns Brewers a point
Substitute Richard Walker back-heeled the ball into Boertien's path and he beat keeper Simon Eastwood with a left-foot shot into the far corner of the net.
Striker Gareth Evans had given Bradford the lead in the 24th minute with a low angled shot from the left after James Hanson headed the ball into his path.
However, Burton hit back well and twice came close to scoring before half-time.
First, Eastwood did well to deny John McGrath, diverting his shot over the bar in the 29th minute. Then, Lee Bullock managed to block Greg Pearson's shot near the line a minute before half-time after Eastwood could only push Shaun Harrad's shot into his path.
But Burton kept on plugging and got their rewards in the second period, denying Bradford what would have been their fifth consecutive league and cup win.
