Bantams and Vale share stalemate

Bradford, who lost their opening day match 5-0 at Notts County before going down to Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup in midweek, had more of the play, but rarely tested Chris Martin in the visitors' goal. For most of the time he was protected by a strong Vale defence in which Gareth Owen was outstanding. One of the rare occasions Martin was in trouble came in stoppage time, but he managed to hold on to a left-foot drive from new signing James Hanson at the second attempt. Vale, who beat Sheffield United in the Carling Cup in midweek, forced nine corners but the Bradford defence coped comfortably with most of what they had to offer.
