Bournemouth boss Kevin Bond has named Rob Newman as his assistant at Dean Court.
The former Norwich City star managed Southend United for 18 months until March 2003 and was boss at Cambridge United until last month when he was sacked by the Conference strugglers.
"I'm really pleased to be back in the game not long after leaving Cambridge and working for a club like Bournemouth," Newman told the club's official website.
"Hopefully I can prove a good wing man for Kevin and hopefully we can bring some success to the football club.
"I've not worked with Kevin before, but he has a good reputation in the game. I know people at clubs he's been at and who have seen him work. He's very thorough at what he tries to do and I think I'm quite similar to him in that respect."
Meanwhile, former caretaker manager Stuart Murdoch has left the Cherries.
