Gowling appeal fails

Bournemouth have failed with their bid to have Josh Gowling's red card from Saturday's victory against Swindon Town overturned.

The 21-year-old's claim for wrongful dismissal was upheld by an FA disciplinary commission on Tuesday.

Gowling will now be forced to serve an immediate one-match suspension, ruling him out of the Cherries' Carling Cup second round clash at Wigan Athletic.

The former West Brom youngster was dismissed for denying Tony Thorpe an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
