Boston United chairman Jim Rodwell has defended his decision to place the club into administration during last weekend's 3-1 defeat at Wrexham.
The Pilgrims entered into a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) when it became clear they were heading to defeat - and relegation to the Conference - on the final day of the League Two season.
They are now expected to be handed a ten-point deduction this season rather than the penalty being carried over to the beginning of the next campaign.
"It's a difficult situation and we were aware we may have to do this depending on the result on Saturday," Rodwell told BBC Radio Five Live.
"We weren't particularly happy with it but we think we have acted within the rules, morally perhaps it's not the right thing to do but football's about business.
"It's a process we had looked at after we were threatened with a winding up order by the Inland Revenue.
"But my obligations are to the fans of Boston and the players, who haven't been paid for months.
"It would have been unfair to them if I had activated it (CVA) before we had gone down.
"All I am trying to do is make sure the club survives."
