BORRUSSIA CONTINUE TO SUPRISE EVERYONE

Wednesday Nov 09 2005 00:00

Borussia Monchengladbach have been the surprise package of the season so far with Horst Koppel taking the Foals up to the heady heights of fifth in the table after ten games at the helm, uncharted waters for a side used to battle against relegation most of the time.

Nevertheless, Gladbach have got to where they are by scoring goals and entertaining the fans with Werder Bremen just one of the sides on the receiving end of a rejuvenated Borussia side. On Saturday, they travel to Dortmund looking to extend their unbeaten run to six games on the bounce and assume a lofty position in the top five, although the weaknesses in Koppels side were revealed in a 3-0 defeat to Berlin in the German Cup on Wednesday.

Borussia are a side who like to go forward and look to create chances, but when they go behind, as they did in Berlin on Wednesday, their heads go down and that could be where Dortmunds chance for success lies. Thomas Broich may have returned after missing the game in midweek with an ankle injury otherwise Filip Daems could retain his place in midfield.
