Potential Ins and Outs for Borussia Dortmund this summer

Borussia Dortmund have already lost one star player this summer with the influential Mario Gotze departing the Signal Iduna Park for Bayern Munich. After their Champions League final heart-break, BVB are expected to improve during the transfer window.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND’S POTENTIAL SIGNINGS

Christian Benteke – Aston Villa - £20+ million

Christian Benteke has quickly become one of the transfer window’s most wanted players. Different clubs are being linked with the Belgian every day.

Premier League sides Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal have all expressed their interest in the 22 year old. However, Dortmund are planning a bid to replace to outgoing Robert Lewandowski and find a suitable partner for Marco Reus in their attack.

Benteke fits the bill as his size and strength coupled with his quick feet and dribbling means he could be the perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Julian Draxler – Schalke - £15 million

Schalke manager, Horst Heldt, has claimed that Dortmund have shown an interest in German midfielder Julian Draxler.

Draxler is considered as one of Germany’s best young talents and could be set to join the ever growing line of young Dortmund stars to replace Gotze in the attacking midfield role.

With Ikkay Gundogan and Lars Bender providing midfield steel, Draxler would be given freedom to create chances and flourish behind the main strikers.

If Dortmund can beat Arsenal to his signature, they would have pulled off a massive coup in the transfer window.

Edin Dzeko – Manchester City - £16 million

A move for Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko hinges on whether the club signs Christian Benteke or a striking replacement for Lewandowski should he eventually leave the club.

Dzeko is another prime target to replace the Polish target and the Bosnian is still not a regular at the Etihad despite finishing as their top scorer last season.

The 26 year old has been used as a sweetener in Manchester City’s efforts to sign Edinson Cavani from Napoli and Rafael Benitez is reportedly an admirer of the tall striker.

Inter Milan and Fiorentina have also shown an interest in acquiring Dzeko’s services.

POTENTIAL BORUSSIA DORTMUND DEPARTURES

Robert Lewandowski – Poland - £20+ million

Lewandowski has quickly established himself as the best number nine in Germany as his enormous goal return shows what clubs are missing out on.

Treble winning side Bayern Munich are hot favourites for his signature with the Polish international stating his desire to follow Mario Gotze to Bavaria. Dortmund are adamant that he will not be sold to their Bundesliga rivals but Lewandowski feels the club will eventually change their mind.

Real Madrid are another club interested in the Pole with Gonzalo Higuian on the edge of an exit. The 24 year old reportedly held a private ten minute meeting with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez when the two sides met in the Champions League semi-final.

With Dortmund convinced that he will not sign for a rival German side, Manchester United have been touted as a possible destination with the future of Wayne Rooney hanging in the balance. David Moyes will be hoping to beat off competition from Chelsea in order to form a formidable attacking partnership with Robin Van Persie.

Marco Reus – Germany - £30 million

Marco Reus is another name that most clubs will want on their team-sheet after another fantastic season in the Bundesliga.

Incoming Manchester City boss Manuel Pelligrini has indicated that a £30 million move for Reus would be on his shopping list. Chelsea are another rumoured club but will try to sign Edinson Cavani first.

City director of football, Txiki Begiristan, is reportedly keen on adding to his summer acquisations of Jesus Navas and Fernandinho by sanctioning a move for the German striker.

A dilemma for both clubs is that Dortmund is Reus’ boyhood club and it is highly unlikely he will accept a move away.

Mats Hummels – Germany - £25 million

Mats Hummels has formed a strong defensive partnership with Nevan Subotic at the heart of Dortmund’s defence. This has been central to their success and BVB will want to keep hold of their star defender.

However, the temptation of Barcelona could persuade Hummels to leave Germany as the Blaugrana step up their search for a new centre back to replace Carlos Puyol. A move for Hummels could depend on whether Tito Villonova decides to move for Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany.

Manchester United are another possible destination with the club looking to add a young but established centre back to their ranks with concerns over Nemanja Vidic’s long term fitness and with Rio Ferdinand ageing.

Yet Manchester City could make a move for the German should Barcelona prise Kompany away from Manchester. They feel Hummels would be the perfect replacement should their Belgian captain depart England.
