Metzelder eyes Germany return

Christoph Metzelder has sparked a transfer scramble among Bundesliga sides after revealing he expects to leave current club Real Madrid.

The Germany international is out of contract at the Spanish giants at the end of the season and has set his sights on returning to the Bundesliga.

The 29-year-old centre-half has struggled to hold down a starting place at Real following his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2007.

"One has to be realistic and I do not think Madrid will renew my contract," he admitted.

"However, even if my situation at the club changed all of a sudden, I'd still decide to leave the club.

"I really enjoyed playing at Real Madrid and being in the same team as players such as Raul and Cristiano Ronaldo, but my time at Madrid has been three years lost when it comes to sporting aspects.

"I want to return to Germany. I have always enjoyed playing in the Bundesliga. I'm looking forward to joining a club where I can add something to the team. I want to be important again."
