Germanys Bender out of Dortmunds Stuttgart clash
Published : 30 Oct 2012 15:47:46
Germany midfielder Sven Bender will miss Saturday's Bundesliga match against VfB Stuttgart with a calf strain, as well as sitting out Tuesday's German Cup match at second division VfR Aalen.
The 23-year-old picked up the calf injury in Dortmund's 2-1 Champions League victory over Real Madrid last Wednesday, but is expected to be fit for the return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on November 6.
Bender will miss Saturday's game at home to Stuttgart with Dortmund fourth in the league, nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich, with Stuttgart eighth.
Meanwhile, Dortmund's trio of bosses -- head coach Jurgen Klopp, sports director Michael Zorc and chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke -- are all set to stay at the helm until at least 2016, Watzke has told a local newspaper.
Between them, the trio have each played a role in taking Dortmund from bankruptcy in 2005 to a recorded profit in 2012 of 34 million euros ($44 million) having won the German league title for the last two seasons.
Klopp has a contract until June 2016 and Watzke says his popularity has sky-rocketed.
"Jurgen has up to 480 interview requests per week, he is among the 10 most famous Germans, just behind Angela Merkel," Watzke told the Schwaebische Zeitung newspaper.
"That is simply too many for the time he has available."
