Champion's League Final Will Miss Bayern Bound Gotze
It was supposed to be the last chance the magical Mario Gotze had to repay Borussia Dortmund for the faith they have placed in him throughout his career. After agreeing a transfer worth just shy of €40m to Bayern, which will make him the most expensive German player of all time, the mercurial midfielder had one last chance to thank BVB. Against his future employers, in the biggest game in the club’s history no less.
Alas, injury has not only taken the chance from him, but has also hit Dortmund’s chances of lifting the trophy hard, and robbed neutrals; particularly those outside of Germany who may not have seen a lot of his work; of viewing a truly world class talent doing what he does best.
Bayern however, are more than aware of what the 20 year old can do, and will be quietly pleased that the threat of his mazy runs and slick passing has been nullified. During his time as technical director of DFB, Bayern’s sporting director Matthias Sammer described Mario as “one of the best talents that we’ve ever had,” and would want nothing less than to see that talent tear his side apart.
Everybody should duly expect a fantastic game of football contested by two truly incredible sides in their own right, but the fence-sitters and those in the black and yellow corner will be left feeling somewhat short changed by the absence of one of the most exciting young footballers on the planet.
