Injury forces Borussia Monchengladbach defender Alvaro Dominguez into retirement

Borussia Monchengladbach defender Alvaro Dominguez has been forced to retire at the age of 27 due to injury.

The Spaniard, who joined Gladbach from Atletico Madrid in 2012, the year he won two caps for the national team, made the announcement in a video post on his Twitter account.

He has been troubled by persistent back problems and has not played for Gladbach in over a year.

"I have tried everything to get fit and to be healthy," he said.

"I t is not happy news that I am now, at the age of 27, an invalid.

" I would like to thank you for all your support."
