German under-21 international midfielder Patrick Herrmann has signed a new contract with Borussia Moenchengladbach, tying him to the Bundesliga club until June 2016, it was announced on Friday.

Herrmann, 22, was called up to Germany coach Joachim Loew's last full national squad. He has scored 16 goals in 94 Bundesliga appearances for the Foals since first arriving in their youth set-up in 2008.

He has scored six goals and set up the same number in all competitions this season to help Gladbach to eighth place in the table with two matches remaining.

Lucien Favre's side are still in with a chance of Europa League qualification as they prepare to travel to Mainz on Saturday.
