Gladbach held by Hamburg, miss share of top spot

Borussia Moenchengladbach saw their hopes of taking a provisional share of the lead in the Bundesliga dashed Friday after they could only draw 1-1 with improving Hamburg.

Mike Hanke gave Lucien Favre's hosts the lead with a header from a Juan Arango freekick on the stroke of half-time but Tolgay Arslan equalised 11 minutes after the restart.

The stalemate left Moenchengladbach, a powerhouse in the 1970s but who have generally known lean times since, two points adrift of leaders Dortmund, who face Hanover on Sunday.

They are now two points ahead of Bayern Munich, who host Schalke also on Sunday.

Hamburg, steadily improving under the tutelage of Thorsten Fink, leapfrogged Wolfsburg into eighth place.
