Unhappy Barrios eyes summer switch from Dortmund

Paraguay striker Lucas Barrios, who has been linked to both Arsenal and Manchester City, has said he will not spend another season on the bench at German league champions Borussia Dortmund.

The 27-year-old has spent much of this season warming the bench behind Poland striker Robert Lewandowski, despite having played a key role in helping Dortmund win the Bundesliga title last season.

In January, German media reports linked him to both Premier League sides Arsenal and City, and the south American has said he will consider his options this summer unless he gets more first-team football.

Coach Jurgen Klopp has given Barrios more game time of late and played him for at least part of every Dortmund match since Christmas, but mainly off the bench.

"Of course, I do not want to sit on the bench for a second season," Barrios told German magazine Sport Bild having extended his contract last summer until 2015.

"That is not what being a professional footballer is about. I'm unhappy, but I'm waiting for my chance as a professional.

"It is difficult on the other hand for me to accept this after such a successful season."

Barrios has scored just one league goal in 15 games this season having netted 16 times in 32 games during the last campaign.

Lewandowski has already scored 16 times in 23 games so far with Dortmund hosting Mainz on Saturday night and four-points clear at the top of the league.
