Ahead of their European clash against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund announced Monday that Poland defender Lukasz Piszczek has extended his contract with the German champions until 2017.

"I have been playing in Dortmund for two years and I am enjoying the football culture, the club and the Borussia fans," the 27-year-old said after extending his contract which was due to expire at the end of the season.

"It is a great recognition and a commitment from me to be able to play for this exceptional club in this exceptional team for years to come."

Having joined from Hertha Berlin in 2010, Piszczek and Dortmund face Real on Wednesday in their next Champions League match.

"He is the driving force of our game," admitted Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp, with Borussia still licking their wounds after losing the Ruhr derby 2-1 to neighbours Schalke 04 on Saturday.
