Dortmund's Japan star Kagawa suffers ankle injury

Japan winger Shinji Kagawa is expected to be out for at least the next two weeks with an ankle injury and will miss Saturday's Bundesliga clash at Herth Berlin for German league leaders Borussia Dortmund.

The 22-year-old damaged ankle ligaments in training and is not expected to return until the Bundesliga clash against Mainz on March 3.

"He suffered the injury in a one-on-one in training and we are now looking at the Mainz game (for him)," confirmed coach Jurgen Klopp.

Having scored four goals in his last four games, Kagawa's loss is a big blow for the defending champions, who are already without groin-injury victim Mario Goetze in midfield.

Klopp admits he has to change his formation to compensate for the loss of the in-form Japanese star, but Ilkay Gundogan is the most likely option to slot into the Dortmund midfield, while striker Lucas Barrios is another possibility.

"I cannot even tell you how we will change the team around. I'm still thinking," said Klopp.

Dortmund have won all three of their league games since the start of the year and are two points ahead of Bayern Munich in the league table.
