UEFA open Bolton fan probe

UEFA has confirmed that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against both Bolton Wanderers and Atletico Madrid following their UEFA Cup last 32 meeting last week.
Wanderers had lodged an official complaint after accusing Spanish police of using "over-zealous and disproportionate" tactics to deal with their fans during the second leg of a tie they won 1-0 on aggregate.
But UEFA have now pledged to look into the conduct of supporters from both clubs after a stormy meeting in Madrid.
"UEFA has announced that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Spanish club Club Atletico de Madrid and English opponents Bolton Wanderers in connection with crowd disturbances in Spain on February 21," confirmed a statement.
"Official reports have been submitted to the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body, which will decide on the matter at its next meeting on Thursday March 20."
Previously, concerned Bolton chairman Phil Gartside had called for a probe into the behaviour of the Spanish police.
"I have great sympathy for any of our supporters who have been injured by what is clearly an overreaction by the Spanish police," he said.
"Our fans gave us magnificent support on the night and this has taken the shine off what has been a momentous evening in the club's history.
"Bolton Wanderers Football Club will be pursuing the matter at the highest level and seeking an explanation from the Spanish authorities."
