Trotters snap up Cesar

Bolton Wanderers have signed free agent defender Cesar Martin on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Martin was released by La Liga side Levante in January and the former Spain international defender has agreed a switch to the Reebok Stadium.

The 29-year-old has made over 200 appearances in Spain's top-flight for Levante, Real Oviedo and Deportivo La Coruna.

"Once he became a free agent we moved quickly to secure his services," Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce told the club's official website.

"He needs to build his fitness levels up before featuring in the Premiership.

"I have been monitoring him for quite some time and he has some key attributes which will potentially strengthen on our defensive unit once he reaches the optimum levels of fitness.

"With only three experienced centre-backs at my disposal, Cesar can make an impact in the last 11 games of this season."
