Trotters rubbish Anelka link
04 Jun 2007 - 10:06:33
Bolton Wanderers have issued a statement denying that Manchester United have shown any interest in striker Nicolas Anelka.
Press reports had suggested that the 28-year-old France international was a major transfer target for the Premier League champions, but Trotters chairman, Phil Gartside, has denied such talk.
He told his club's official website: "Manchester United chief executive David Gill has confirmed to me that Manchester United has no interest in Nicolas Anelka.
"Sammy Lee is looking to build a squad for next season and we absolutely have no interest in selling any of our better players. Nicolas, of course, is one such player."
Anelka himself had opened the door for United while away on international duty, admitting that he would relish a move to Old Trafford.
He told reporters: "You know where I want to go, you can't say no to Manchester.
"It's always the same four big clubs who are dominating English football. With Bolton, either we stun them all or we finish fifth or sixth.
"So yes, I want to play with one of these big four clubs, but I also want to try and help Bolton become one of the big Premier League clubs."
