Trotters keeper stays put
22 Jun 2007 - 08:57:20
Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen is set to stay with the Trotters and see out the final year of his contract, disappointing a number of other Premier League clubs.
The 32-year-old Finland international had seemed set to leave the Reebok Stadium this summer after turning down the offer of a new deal, with Sunderland and Aston Villa reportedly showing an interest.
However, Jaaskelainen's agent, Peter Harrison, now says his client has decided to stay put for now.
He told The Daily Mail: "Jussi has decided that he is going to see out the final year of his contract and assess the situation after that.
"I've spoken to (manager) Sammy Lee and he is delighted."
Trotters boss Lee had earlier admitted: "Jussi's been made a very good offer by the club and, although we've read that he's turned it down, he's not said anything to me.
"Obviously I don't want to lose him, but we've got contingency plans."
Bolton had been linked with a move for Sheffield United's Paddy Kenny if Jaaskelainen had opted to try his luck elsewhere.
