Trotters closing on Davis deal

Bolton Wanderers are close to agreeing a deal to sign Portsmouth midfielder Sean Davis, according to reports.

The Trotters are searching for a replacement for Kevin Nolan, who left the club last week to join Newcastle United, with 29-year-old Davis their rumoured top target.

Bolton boss Gary Megson had hoped to land Sporting Lisbon's Miguel Veloso, but accepts that that deal is now out of the question.

He said after the 3-2 win at home to Spurs: "We've been trying for a long time but the amount of money they want, I wouldn't feel comfortable paying that, and nobody else will.

"As far as I'm concerned it's finished. We've got two offers in for two players and interest in two others and we need to bring them in."

Davis has made just over 100 appearances for Pompey, having previously enjoyed spells with Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham.
