Trotters aim to keep Ben-Haim

Bolton Wanderers have made a last-ditch bid to keep Tal Ben-Haim at the club after revealing they have offered the out-of-contract defender a new deal.

The Israel international has been linked with a departure to a host of other Premiership club after rejecting the overtures of the Trotters to sign a new deal to remain at the Reebok Stadium beyond this summer.

However, Bolton have refused to concede defeat in their battle to keep the former Maccabi Tel Aviv defender after offering Ben-Haim a new deal after Sunday's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa confirmed their place in next year's UEFA Cup.

"I have finished the contract, everybody knows that," Ben-Haim told the club's official website.

"The chairman caught me after the game and we talked, but it is a long summer - so let's keep it like that for now.

"I don't want to talk about it anymore because I want a few days now to take a break from everything, to relax and then I can make up my mind."

Meanwhile, Bordeaux defender Gerald Cid is looking forward to completing his free transfer switch to Bolton in the summer.

Cid will sign for the Trotters when his present deal with the French club expires.

"Bolton is an ambitious club. I am proud to have signed over there," he said.

"Today, I aspire only to one thing - to start my new history of love with the Premiership, which is, in my eyes, with Spain's Liga, the best championship in the world."
