Sheffield United have admitted defeat in their attempts to sign Bolton Wanderers winger Stelios Giannakopoulos.
Blades boss Bryan Robson had hoped to persuade the Greece international to drop down a division, initially on loan, with a permanent deal on the cards for the 33-year-old.
However, Robson has confirmed that the Trotters ace is happy to stay put and battle for his place at the Reebok Stadium.
He told the club's official website: "The move for Stelios is definitely dead in the water.
"He doesn't want to drop down into the Championship and I couldn't persuade him to do that.
"It would've been nice to have him in our squad, but it's not going to happen and we have to move on."
