Bolton Wanderers' veteran midfielder Gary Speed has signed a new two-year contract with the Trotters.
The 36-year-old former Wales international had been linked with a move to Wigan Athletic in recent days, but has now penned an improved deal at the Reebok Stadium.
Trotters boss Sam Allardyce told the club's official website: "Gary's top-flight experience is second to none and is vital to this football club.
"He's been with us for two seasons and during that time he has been exceptional."
Speed joined Bolton in the summer of 2004 for £750,000 from Newcastle United, having earlier enjoyed lengthy spells with Everton and Leeds United.
Meanwhile, French international striker Nicolas Anelka says he has agreed a four-year contract with Bolton after being told that he can leave current club, Fenerbahce.
Anelka has previously played in England for Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
