Sigh Of Relief
You could literally hear a collective sigh of relief at the final whistle at Molyneux from the traveling Bolton fans. With results elsewhere going against them for consecutive weekends, this 3 points for the Wanderers was another crucial step in ensuring they keep their Premiership status next season. After surviving a pretty full blooded first half from the home team, Bolton again dug deep and defended well, with Adam Bogdan once more showing just why Jaaskelainen is being kept rooted to the subs bench. Not easy for any young keeper to keep such an established & much respected senior out of the team – but Bogdan’s displays have been nothing short of impressive, and long may it continue. Even the young stopper was unable to prevent the Wolves goal when it came early in the second half... With Kightly cutting in from the right and curling a lovely 20 yard effort home, the Wolves fans had a glimpse of a much needed home win. Refusing to lay down and continuing to show their new found belief, Bolton were soon awarded a penalty when former Wolves player Mark Davies jinksed into the box and was sent tumbling... No matter how many times you see the foul, from any angle, and at any speed, the contact albeit slight, was definitely there, it was a rash tackle from Johnson which made the decision for the referee quite straightforward, and Petrov didn’t disappoint with the penalty, dispatching with style – his celebration was dedicated to his old Villa pal & namesake, Petrov. From there it spurned Bolton on, with Marcos Alonso following up an unlucky N’Gog header for his first goal in the English Prem & club skipper Kevin Davies neatly rounding the Wolves defence to tap in a third, things were starting to look a whole lot rosier, even if Matt Jarvis last minute consolation gave the away fans a few squeaky minutes. So three wins on the bounce, and a home game against Fulham awaits.... With the other teams around them continually winning, it’s making the relegation battle interesting for the neutral & exciting for the media, spare a thought for the fans though!
