Shittu seals Trotters switch
06 Aug 2008 - 14:28:12
Bolton Wanderers have completed the signing of Watford central defender Danny Shittu for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract.
The 27-year-old Nigeria international had been set for a move to Rangers earlier this summer, but has now opted to head to the Reebok Stadium after seeing his Ibrox switch fall through.
Shittu joined Watford in the summer of 2006, having made his name during a five-year stint with Queens Park Rangers.
Hornets chairman, Graham Simpson, had earlier admitted that the club had to allow players to move on to maintain financial stability at Vicarage Road.
He said: "I have always maintained from day one that I will run this club prudently.
"We had a terrible situation in 2002 when I took over and the club was 24 hours away from administration.
"We are nowhere near anything like that, we are absolutely fine, but we have to be strict about how we go forward. We can't just say we are going to take this player and that player."
