Sam hails Anelka show
26 Nov 2006 - 13:28:49
Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka earned high praise from manager Sam Allardyce after netting his first two league goals for the Trotters to help see off his former club Arsenal.
The £8million summer signing from Fenerbahce had previously failed to find the net in ten Premiership outings for the Trotters, with his only goal for the club having come in the Carling Cup against Walsall.
However, he made up for that run in some style, rifling home two crackers to send the Gunners away from the Reebok Stadium empty-handed.
Allardyce said: "Nicolas scored two goals and it would have been a shame to waste the first one. It has to be contender for goal of the season, never mind of the month.
"Unfortunately we got caught up in the emotion and allowed Arsenal to get back in the game.
"But then Nicolas popped up again when we needed it the most and finished Arsenal off.
"Players do tend to give a bit extra when they face their former clubs. He wanted to show what a good striker he is and he certainly did that."
