Petrov aims parting blast at City
02 Jul 2010 - 09:39:37
Bulgaria international Martin Petrov has accused Manchester City of treating him like a teenager in his last season at Eastlands.
The 31-year-old officially became a Bolton Wanderers player on Thursday after agreeing a three-year contract with Owen Coyle's side.
Petrov scored 12 times in 72 appearances for City after then boss Sven-Goran Eriksson signed him three years ago, but he dropped out of the first-team picture under Mark Hughes and then Roberto Mancini.
The former Wolfsburg and Atletico Madrid star said: "It was frustrating, but not because I didn't play. I understand why, because they are buying big stars now for so much money.
"Every time I played on the pitch I showed that I have a place in this team but, okay, the decision is the manager's.
"But the worst thing is that the communication at City with the players who do not play is not professional.
"I am 31 years old and I felt like I was 13 there. Nobody spoke with me about my situation - they knew that my contract was finishing."
Meanwhile, Coyle has dismissed reports suggesting he is about to sign the former Villarreal star Juan Roman Riquelme and Brazilian striker Ilan by saying: "It's rubbish. I've no interest in either of them."
