Petrov agrees to join Bolton

Bolton Wanderers have won the race to sign free agent winger Martin Petrov following his release by Manchester City.

The Bulgaria international has agreed a deal to join the Trotters when his City contract expires on July 1.

The 31-year-old scored 12 goals in 66 appearances during three seasons at Eastlands and was reportedly being tracked by a host of Premier League clubs including Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers.

Speaking earlier in the week, manager Owen Coyle admitted he was keen to add some flair to his squad for the new season.

"We are looking to bring in the best players that are available to us and ones that we think can improve our squad and take us on. That's normal because you always look to strengthen every area of your team," he told the club's official website.

"It's fair to say that we are looking to add a little bit of flair to what we already have so that we are not one dimensional and have different facets to our play.

"We did well last year in terms of keeping some shut-outs, but within that we want to have a platform to be really inventive in games. To do that you need certain types of players."
