O'Brien surgery a success
18 Feb 2009 - 10:17:47
Bolton Wanderers midfielder Joey O'Brien will spend the next two months on the sidelines after undergoing successful surgery on his left knee.
O'Brien, who has not played since October and has made only eight appearances this season, travelled to the United States last week to visit leading specialist Dr Richard Steadman for a minor operation.
Assistant boss Chris Evans was pleased with the outcome of the surgery, saying: "Everything went well. Richard Steadman is the leading specialist in his field and Joey has known him previously.
"The doctor was pleased with what he saw and the diagnosis was far better than had been feared.
"We wanted him to have the best treatment available, so we sent Joey with a member of our medical staff right away.
"The diagnosis was swift and favourable. We think that he could be back in about eight weeks, if everything goes according to plan.
"It will be nice to have him back available after a long time out on the sidelines."
