O'Brien sets points target
04 Mar 2008 - 11:28:55
Bolton Wanderers defender Andy O'Brien believes Gary Megson's side need to reach 40 points if they are to extend their stay in the Premier League to an eighth season.
Sunday's 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool left Bolton just above the bottom three on goal difference and they are still 15 points away from O'Brien's target.
Bolton have only ten games left to save themselves, but O'Brien told the Manchester Evening News: "People usually say if you get to 40 points you'll be safe, and I think if we get that total we should be all right. But it's not going to be easy.
"I don't think the UEFA Cup is a distraction although there's a difficulty in terms of the team changing from game to game.
"But the UEFA Cup is a prestigious competition. It's a reward for having had a good season the previous year.
"But we know the Premier League is our bread and butter and our main priority."
