Nolan vows to fight back
12 Oct 2007 - 14:31:17
Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Nolan has vowed to bounce back from the "gut-wrenching blow" of being dropped and help steer the club away from the lower reaches of the table.
Nolan has spoken of his surprise at being dropped by under-fire manager Sammy Lee for last weekend's Premier League trip to Chelsea.
But the Wanderers skipper has promised to do all he can to help reverse the fortunes of the ailing club - who are currently 19th in the league table - and is desperate to win back his place in the side.
"I was as surprised as anyone to find out I was not in the team. It was a gut-wrenching blow," he told the Bolton Evening News.
"At first I didn't really know how to react, but I think I reacted in the right way by getting behind the club and behind the lads and, obviously, I was disappointed we didn't get the result.
"Obviously I respect the manager's decision. It's not about me, it's what is best for the club and, if what is best for the club is for me not to be in the team, then I'll hold my hands up.
"But as captain of Bolton Wanderers Football Club I have to set an example to the rest of the lads.
"It's been a bit of a mad week but I'm not going to sit and sulk. I've got my position to get back.
"This is my club and there's no way I want to be second bottom of the league and not be able to do anything about it."
