Moreno gives us options - Stewart

Published: 04 Sep 2010 - 15:31:00

olton assistant boss Sandy Stewart believes the Trotters have unearthed a gem with the loan capture of Spain Under-19 striker Rodrigo Moreno. Moreno arrived on loan from Benfica on transfer deadline day, ending a long chase for Owen Coyle, who has tracked his progress right through the summer. Moreno was due to sign for the Whites on a season-long deal from Real Madrid before being packaged as part of the deal that took Argentine international Angel Di Maria to the Bernabeu. But Coyle finally landed his man this week after convincing the Portuguese club that the 19-year-old would benefit from some first-team exposure in the Premier League. The Brazil-born youngster landed on Monday to complete the deal and has now returned to his home in Spain before reporting to Euxton on Monday with the rest of the squad who are not away on international duty. And Stewart is looking forward to having a different option in attack, once the teenager settles into life at The Reebok. "He has got pace about him, so that does give us something a little bit different than we already have," Stewart told the Bolton News. "Coming from Real Madrid, he's got all the technique you'd expect, and he has got that ability to put his foot on the ball and make things happen. "We've got some good strikers at the club but Rodrigo gives us something else." Stewart is convinced that having done their homework on the striker, that Wanderers have gained the services of a player who is capable of coping with the demands of English football. "You've got to remember he's still young, so we've got to be careful about loading too much pressure on him, but he's got a great pedigree and we really like what we have seen of him so far. "Having Marcos Alonso here, who he played with at Madrid, will also help him settle, no doubt. "We watched him several times last season at Madrid and then again in the Under-19 championships for Spain. It's clear he has got a lot of ability. "And I don't think he will struggle physically. I don't want people to think he's another Kevin Davies - but he will put himself about no problem at all, and we like that.
