Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has sealed the signing of Benfica striker Ariza Makukula on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.
The 27-year-old came through the youth team ranks at Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes before going on to play for Leganes, Nantes, Valladolid, Gimnastic de Tarragona and Maritimo.
He signed for Benfica 12 months ago and has also played four times for Portugal, scoring on his debut in the 2-1 victory against Kazakhstan in October 2007.
Makukula becomes Megson's second signing of the January transfer window, following last week's capture of Sebastien Puygrenier from Zenit St Petersburg.
Makukula joins the Trotters after snubbing a move to Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion.
The DR Congo-born forward had been in talks over a switch to The Hawthorns until the end of the season but said: "I respect the club but I didn't want to be part of their project.
"The coach was friendly, the club is well-organised, but I don't think it's a good fit for me."
