Megson urges Trotters belief
22 Feb 2009 - 11:40:29
Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson was relieved after seeing his side struggle to secure a crucial 2-1 victory at home to West Ham United.
The Trotters were 2-0 up just 11 minutes in at the Reebok Stadium thanks to goals from Matt Taylor and Kevin Davies, but were eventually forced to hang on for three points as the visitors hit back.
Megson admitted that he had been concerned in the second half, with his side having thrown away two-goal cushions against both Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers in the last month.
He said: "We seem incapable of going on to make it three or four goals after going 2-0 up.
"It happened against Tottenham and Blackburn and it happened again today. We showed apprehension and started playing differently.
"But it would be wrong to criticise the players. We have won what I felt was a vital game for us - our biggest of the season.
"We got off to a great start, but we need to show more confidence in ourselves and a bit more belief. We have got good players."
