Megson slams beaten Bolton
30 Mar 2008 - 12:28:54
Furious Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson accused his players of 'falling apart' after they threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to ten-man Arsenal.
The Trotters had looked to be coasting to a much-needed three points after a Matt Taylor first-half brace.
However, a stunning Arsenal fightback in the second half left Bolton on the losing side for the 18th time this season.
Wanderers are now four points adrift of safety in the final relegation place after fellow strugglers Birmingham City and Sunderland picked up precious wins.
"Angry isn't the right word because we are all angry with ourselves," claimed Megson. "That result today was a result which came from committing suicide.
"After the first ten minutes when we'd settled down a bit we were on top, scored probably the best goal of the afternoon and going in at 2-0 at ten men you expect an onslaught at the start of the second half.
"That didn't come and then we just fell apart from 64 minutes onwards. We gifted them the first goal, which is a pathetic goal for us to concede.
"We have five people who are told all they have to do from a corner is make sure the player they are allocated does not score and that did not happen.
"The second goal was a poor goal in terms of getting caught going towards balls when we should already have been in that position and then we started to panic a little bit."
