Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson has hinted that he will look to strengthen his inconsistent squad when the transfer window opens in just over two weeks' time.
The Trotters remain in danger of relegation after losing 4-2 at Manchester City at the weekend and Megson knows that he will lose Abdoulaye Meite to the African Cup of Nations in January.
He is particularly concerned about his side's defensive deficiencies, saying: "We've got one of the top scorers in the league in Nicolas Anelka, and I think one of the best playing squads, certainly going forward.
"Not many teams will go to Eastlands and score two goals, yet we came away having got beat 4-2.
"We've got issues at the back that are killing us. We've shipped in eight goals in two away games and we can't do anything before January, but we must get players into those positions.
"We have to either bring players in or someone has got to step up to the plate.
"People are bound to look at the players we've got and covet them. But, if anybody's coveting the defenders after Saturday, I'd be surprised.
"We've got to get more from the people playing back there because to go away and score two goals and come away with sod all isn't acceptable."
