Megson hits out at defence
14 Jan 2008 - 08:26:47
Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson blamed poor defending for Sunday's last-gasp derby defeat at the hands of Blackburn Rovers.
The Trotters looked to be heading for a precious point after seeing captain Kevin Nolan's opener equalised by Christopher Samba's header at the Reebok Stadium.
But an injury-time winner from substitute Jason Roberts secured the points for the visitors and left Megson bemoaning the way his side finished the game.
"It's always frustrating to lose so late on, but we have seen the other side of the fence where we have scored the late goal," he said.
"It is difficult to take, but not something that didn't look as if it was on the cards the way we were defending after the introduction of Jason Roberts."
Meanwhile, skipper Nolan has urged Megson to invest the £15million he raised on Friday for the sale of Nicolas Anelka to Chelsea in the current transfer window.
"We all want to see new faces," said Nolan.
"Nico has gone for £15million and we want to see that go on the squad, to bring in three or four players at four or five million each."
