Megson happy to keep stars
29 Aug 2009 - 11:00:48
Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson believes that his best bit of business in the current transfer window has been to keep the likes of Kevin Davies and Gary Cahill at the club.
Megson was braced for bids for a number of his Trotters squad, but so far none have materialised.
He told reporters: "We wanted to try and keep as many of those established players as we could, there are some real good ones in there.
"Last year we managed to keep Jussi Jaaskelainen and we managed to keep Ali Al Habsi, who would manage to get in most Premier League sides, so in that position we are well stocked.
"Kevin Davies is always linked with some clubs, but nobody has ever been on to me and said that they'll take Kevin, because I think there is a realisation that we just wouldn't entertain it.
"The same goes for Matt Taylor - he came out of Portsmouth's reserves and got ten goals last year and we need him to start doing the same things again.
"And the biggest one was Cahill. Gary came out of Aston Villa's reserves, had a full season here, found himself in the England squad and will kick on and go on even further.
"I think in a couple of years' time he will be a fixture in England's team. That is the best bit of business that we have done over the summer - to get Gary to commit."
