Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson hailed the character of his players after they boosted their survival chances with a priceless 1-0 win over
West ham United.
Kevin Davies' 47th minute winner gave the Trotters a lifeline in the tightening relegation dogfight and afterwards Megson was delighted with the level of performance his side produced under extreme pressure.
He said: "It was absolutely imperative that we won and we did it in a manner that I thought was good from the players' point of view.
"There are a lot of positives to come from today and it (the win) was fully deserved.
"The players deserve great credit not just for the way they played but in the circumstances in which they played because we didn't just battle, scrap and run and fight, we actually played well on quite a few occasions.
"We had maybe three kicked off the line, a couple have gone down (West ham keeper) Robert Green's throat which could have gone either side and we've had a couple of goals disallowed which were touch and go and not a massive amount came from West ham."
However, the three points came at a cost as Davies picked up his tenth booking of the campaign and will now miss the next two games league games against Middlesbrough and Tottenham Hotspur.
