Bolton Wanders manager Gary Megson is hopeful of tying star defender Gary Cahill down to a new, extended contract in the near future.
The 23-year-old has been outstanding for the Trotters in recent months and has earned a call-up to the England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra as a result.
Megson told the Daily Star Sunday: "Gary is currently under contract and we are currently in the process of negotiating a new and improved deal for him.
"He has fully deserved his England call-up and we want him to earn many caps in the future as a Bolton Wanderers player.
"I want to build the team around him for the next few seasons and that means we very much want him to stay with us here."
Cahill joined Bolton in January 2008 from Aston Villa, having found first-team opportunities limited with the Midlands club.
