Megson drops Barton hint

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has refused to rule out the possibility of making a summer move for controversial midfielder Joey Barton.

Barton will not play again this season after being suspended by current club Newcastle United following his red card for violent conduct in last weekend's defeat at Liverpool.

The troubled midfielder could now be in line for a cut-price move at the end of the season and, should he become available, then Megson would be interested.

The once-capped England international's time on Tyneside has been shrouded in controversy following his much-publicised off-field problems which have led to time behind bars.

"We had an interest in Joey in January," confirmed Megson.

"There are obviously issues but he does play his football for somebody else so we need to respect that.

"We can't talk about other people's players."
